Privacy policy

Last updated November 27, 2022

Here's the simple version:

Ember cares deeply about user privacy. And we think you deserve to know exactly how we use your data.

We do not sell or share your personal information. Ever. Period.

Ember works by using algorithms to find the clothing size that will fit you best. Ember is free for shoppers and always will be.

But how do we use your data?

When you enter your information into the Ember Sizing Form, your data is handled by TypeForm and then passed directly to our cloud database hosted by Google. Both providers are ISO 27001, SOC2, and GDPR compliant. Your data then never leaves Ember's cloud database until you delete your account or update your information.

Our privacy policy is simple: We will be transparent about what data we collect and how we use it to try to make sure any clothing you order online fits perfectly from this day forth. If that sounds great, then welcome to Ember!

Now, the long version:

Introduction

This privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) explains how addember.com (“Ember” or “we”) collects and processes information from members and users of the website, software applications, and other online services we provide (collectively “Ember's products”). Ember's products include, but are not limited to, the Ember extension for web browsers (the “Extension”), and the website located at www.addember.com (the “Website”).

If we ever need additional personal information for a specific reason, we will tell you and ask for your permission. Also, to the extent that Ember has links to other websites (like retailers), please note that we do not own, operate, or control them, and they have their own controlling privacy policies that you should review.

Data We Collect and Why

In order to provide our products, Ember collects information that you share directly with us when you use our website or extension. When you become a member of Ember, you share your email address information with us during the sign up process. If you choose to complete the Ember Sizing Form, you optionally share additional information with us to personalize your sizing experience, including but not limited to, name, birthdate, and various bodily measurements. Your measurements are NEVER shared with any third party.

Ember also collects technical information about your device and use of Ember to make sure that our products are working properly. The information we collect is geared towards providing Ember users with a better experience and to help us develop, improve, and market our services. This information may include data like: the type of device you are using, the device's unique ID, operating system, IP address, event stamp, and error logs.

Ember does not track your search engine history, emails, or your browsing on any site that is not one of our supported retail websites (a list of the websites may be found within the Extension's menu under 'Brands').

On supported retail websites, Ember collects the name of the retailer, page views, and product information that allows to accurately recommend a best-fit size. We may also collect limited information regarding your purchase on the supported retail website (for example, whether a purchase was made or not and whether the recommended size was purchased) for internal analytics and user feedback purposes. The information you share and we collect allows us to improve our products.

We may also use the information we collect in aggregate or otherwise anonymized form. This lets us look at interactions with our site and products generally and does not identify you or any specific person. We use this generalized data for research, development, marketing, analytics, and to enhance the shopping experience for Ember users.

We do NOT collect any data from your search engine history, emails, or from websites not listed under our supported retail websites.

How We Share Data

Ember will only share your data if we are legally required to do so. We may share your information in the following cases:

  •  with your express consent;

  •  in an aggregate or anonymized form that does not identify and specific person;

  •  as required by law, or to comply or respond to a valid government request;

  •  when we believe in good faith that it's necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, or to investigate fraud; and

  • with a buyer or successor if Ember is involved in a merger, acquisition, or similar corporate transaction. If that happens, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on the Website of any change in ownership, as well as any choices you will have as a result.

How We Protect Data

The security of your data is important to us and we take many measures to do so. These measures include limiting access, using encryption, testing for vulnerabilities, and more. Despite our best efforts, we cannot guarantee that user information will not be accessed, viewed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed as a result of a breach of any of our safeguards. You provide us with information at your own risk.

Ember only retains information about you as long as you keep using Ember, though we’ll keep information if we need it to meet our legal obligations and to defend against legal claims.

Your Choices for Your Data

We've made it easy to opt out of Ember's products at any time.

If you want to stop using Ember, instructions on how to uninstall an extension can be found in the Google Chrome store and if you have any issues you can contact our support team for assistance by sending an email to hello@addember.com.

If you would like to delete your profile or personal information, you can always ask us by emailing hello@addember.com. We will delete any personal information we have, although the following exceptions apply: (1) we may still store your personal information if we need it to meet our legal or compliance obligations and/or to defend against legal claims; and (2) we may also continue to store your personal data in an aggregated and anonymized format that doesn’t identify you and can’t be attributed to you, even after you’ve deleted your profile.
